Email consent
Where a patient requests that e-mail is their desired means of communicating with the Practice the following safeguards to preserve patient privacy shall be implemented:
The patient should be aware of the risks and liabilities accepted by requesting that e-mail is used for their correspondence.
The patient must provide their written consent. The patients email shall be regarded as patient consent.
Only appropriate matters should be dealt with via e-mail and exchanges should be agreed in advance between the patient and clinician.
The patient’s e-mail address must be verified (by receipt of an e-mail) before it is used.
Patients are informed that communication via email should not be used for urgent queries. They should ring the surgery telephone line.
